The studio of "Phoenix Urns®"

Michael van de Sande, founder of the studio of Phoenix Urns ® had his education as a ceramic pottery painter at the world-famous Royal Delft Pottery Factory "De Porceleyne Fles Anno 1653" in Delft. He also studied "Graphic and Typographic Design" at the "Royal Academy of Art" in The Hague. He worked at the famous pottery factory until 1992.

From 1992 to 2004 he then worked as a pottery painter / designer at the smaller Delftware factory "De Delftse Pauw". In 2004 the artist opened his own studio under the name "Phoenix Urns ®". Since then he has specialised himself in painting unique cremation urns for ashes.

In April 2020, the Phoenix Urns studio started the webshop Butterflyurns.com, where the urns can be ordered directly from the studio.

Phoenix Urns consciously opts for sustainability

All urns are made in our own studio of Phoenix Urns ® in Assen, The Netherlands. We consciously opt for corporate social responsibility and sustainable business.

Phoenix Urns ® consciously opts for socially responsible and sustainable business practices. Not because this is 'so good for our image'. We believe that as humans we are guests on this earth, and that we should therefore behave as guests.

In other words: treat the earth, the climate, the living environment and all its inhabitants with respect.

We believe that if we can make the earth a better place to live, we should make an effort to do so.

But what do we do for that?

1. SUPPORT TO THE "TREES FOR ALL" FOUNDATION:

As of January 1, 2023, Phoenix Urns is a supporter of "Treesforall.nl", an organization that wants to green the earth by starting and supporting tree planting projects in the Netherlands and worldwide. For every urn (* with a sales value of EUR 250.00 or more) that we make for a family, an amount of EUR 5 (= planting 1 tree) goes to this organization.

2. OVENS ON SOLAR ENERGY: Since 2015 our ovens run entirely on solar energy generated by the solar panels on our own roof!.

3. Sustainable production process: We do as much as possible to reuse glaze and economical use of water in the production process. When using all our raw materials, we opt for as few environmentally harmful substances as possible.

4. Support to charitable organizations: Through membership / donation of various charitable organizations active in the field of the environment, human rights, nature, animal welfare, project support in developing countries, etc. (see our "links" page) we try to contribute contribute to make the world “a little better”.

5. We only use sustainable packaging: Our environmentally friendly packaging materials for shipping our urns are almost entirely recyclable (cardboard, paper tape, and “styrofoam pellets” made from compostable potato starch).

6. Choosing for a sustainable bank: By choosing a bank that only invests in "honest" business and that therefore also has the best intentions for the world: Triodos Bank and ASN Bank are the best choice for this.

TRIODOS BANK  -  "Triodos Bank finances companies, institutions and projects with added value in social, environmental and cultural areas, enabled to do so by savers and investors who opt for corporate social responsibility and a sustainable society."

(end of quote)

ASN BANK  -  "ASN bank bank in a socially responsible manner, and has been promoting sustainable development for many years, and manage the money with respect for people, animals and nature." (end of quote)
